The news is out: the Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP) a joint effort between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Communications Security Establishment (CSE) of the government of Canada has granted CipherCloud FIPS 140-2 validation. CipherCloud’s Searchable Strong Encryption (SSE) solution is the first in the cloud visibility and data protection industry to earn this distinction. Recognized worldwide as one of the highest standards for security validation, FIPS 140-2 validation assures U.S. and Canadian companies, agencies, system integrators, and resellers that CipherCloud’s SSE technology has passed rigorous third-party testing. The process is very rigorous and none of other vendors who strive to compete with CipherCloud have have completed it—or, to our knowledge, have even begun the process. Some other cloud visibility and data protection vendors may claim to meet the standards, but a quick check of the FIPS list of 140-2 certified vendors will show who’s been proven and who hasn’t.
This milestone demonstrates CipherCloud’s continued technical leadership and further validates the robustness of the company’s security technologies. Now, CipherCloud adds FIPS 140-2 validation to its arsenal of technical merits, which includes 13 patents for preserving operations for structured and unstructured data in the cloud.
FIPS 140-2 certification is a big achievement, meaning that CipherCloud can apply the highest level of protection to sensitive information, meeting strictest government security regulations, while retaining the functionality of protected data. Striking a balance between cloud data security and cloud data usability has long been a challenge. Once again, we’ve demonstrated that we’re able to address that challenge, unlocking the full potential of cloud computing for even the most security-conscious organizations.
Of course, FIPS 140-2 certification isn’t the only technical accomplishment we’ve got under our belt. Rather, the validation takes a place alongside our 13 patents for preserving operations for both structured and unstructured data in the cloud, serving as another key piece of evidence for our leadership in the arena of protecting data in the cloud without sacrificing functionality.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR OUR CUSTOMERS?
The most important takeaway from our FIPS 140-2 validation is the confidence you can have in CipherCloud’s technology. The regulatory bar for FIPS 140-2 data protection is extremely high, as are enterprise expectations for cloud data functionality, and we’ve made every effort to meet those expectations. Cloud computing doesn’t have to cause major security worry. But don’t take our word for it. Take a look at the FIPS 140-2 standards and decide for yourself.
