CipherCloud Launches European Expansion into France
Significant growth opportunities for cloud data protection as French organizations adopt cloud applications
SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 5, 2015 – CipherCloud, a leader in cloud security, announced that it has opened its French headquarters in Paris with plans for rapid expansion into the French market. The new offices will include sales, professional service and customer support staff to engage and collaborate with customers and support other go-to-market initiatives in France.
Following its sizable $50 million Series B round in November, CipherCloud is expanding the breadth of its European operations to respond to customer demand. CipherCloud has grown rapidly in Europe since the launch of its European headquarters in London, UK two years ago. The company now protects more than three million users across a dozen countries and more than eleven industries. Top customers in Europe include companies in financial services, healthcare, telecommunications, consumer products and government agencies. To accelerate this growth, CipherCloud is announcing the opening of its offices in France and in Germany.
“We’re continuing to grow our global footprint and Europe will be a key region for expansion in 2015 and beyond,” said Pravin Kothari, founder and CEO, CipherCloud. “We are taking a country specific on-the-ground strategy to enable closer collaboration with prospects and customers from the very beginning of the relationship. As a cloud security company, we are a trusted advisor for customers whose deployments require careful navigation of cloud’s inherent privacy, security and data residency complexities. While common regulatory themes exist for the treatment of digital data, each country brings its own national complement to EU laws.”
CipherCloud enables businesses and government agencies to adopt cloud applications while overcoming data security, privacy and compliance risks. CipherCloud has done this by bringing to market the industry’s first complete cloud security platform. Organizations in this market face strict compliance challenges for security due to the data privacy and residency requirements mandated by regional and national laws. The Data Protection Directive penalizes companies for insecure data practices that lead to privacy breaches and the Data Process Act (DPA) tightens data processing guidelines.
“European customers must comply with pan-EU data legislation and an overlay of country-specific privacy regulations,” said Jeroen Blaas, General Manager, CipherCloud Europe. “We are tripling investments in the region to help enterprises who operate here comply with the stringent regulatory environment currently in play and up ahead. The Data Protection Directive has led to stronger interpretations for privacy, as evidenced by the Right to be Forgotten, and is positioned to assess painful financial penalties on companies that suffer data breaches due to insufficient security practices.”
“Our in-country strategy provides customers and prospects with an on-the-ground team of experts who live and breathe the enterprise cloud challenges of the French market,” said Gael Kergot, Director, CipherCloud France. “The Data Process Act (DPA) and EU Data Directive are creating stricter guidelines for data security, including safe harbor requirements for transferring data outside EU boundaries. As result, CipherCloud is staking physical space in the nation’s capital to serve what we predict to be a groundswell of demand as privacy demands heat up in 2015. Cloud provides a competitive advantage that customers of all sizes are eager to leverage. But in order to move to cloud, businesses must meet the data privacy spirit of the EU-wide guidelines and the data processing requirements of the DPA.”
“CipherCloud’s rate of growth since it came into existence four years ago demonstrates that there is a demand in the market for a cloud access control capability,” said Rik Turner, senior analyst, IT Infrastructure Solutions, Ovum. “Enterprises and SMBs are increasingly realizing the value of discovering their cloud usage habits and risks and of protecting sensitive information against security, privacy and residency risks.”
The CipherCloud cloud security platform contains the following essential components:
• Cloud application discovery that provides aggregated reporting and dashboards of cloud applications including understanding employee usage and behavior, whether they are using enterprise approved cloud applications or not, and the level of risk of using them and most importantly putting data into them.
• Cloud data protection that delivers based on corporate policies, industry regulations, or country required compliance laws the maximum level of protection to all sensitive data through a combination of searchable strong encryption, tokenization and malware detection controls.
• Cloud user monitoring that enables the tracking and identification of anomalies that help to reduce the source of risk from both of insider and external threats.
CipherCloud, the leader in cloud visibility and data protection, delivers cloud adoption while ensuring security, compliance and control. CipherCloud’s open platform provides comprehensive cloud application discovery and risk assessment, data protection – searchable strong encryption, tokenization, data loss prevention, key management and malware detection – and extensive user activity and anomaly monitoring services.
CipherCloud has experienced exceptional growth and success with over 3 million of business users, across 11 different industries.
