Gartner Names CipherCloud “Cool Vendor” in Cloud Security Services 2011

CipherCloud’s Offering Interests Enterprises That Are Looking to Protect Sensitive Data Within Salesforce.com and Other Cloud Applications.

Cupertino, CA – April 22, 2011

CipherCloud, an award-winning provider of cloud data encryption solutions for private and public cloud platforms and services, today announced that it has been named a “Cool Vendor in Cloud Security Services, 2011” dated April 21, 2011 by Gartner, Inc..

The report, authored by Ray Wagner, John Pescatore, Neil MacDonald, Jay Heiser, Joseph Feiman and Peter Firstbrook finds that cloud security services remain an emerging market segment, and startups and other niche vendors, rather than established major players, continue to drive much of the innovation in this segment. Cloud security services potentially offer workable solutions to many urgent enterprise security problems, including the need to respond rapidly to highly sophisticated targeted malware attacks, to gain visibility into workloads entrusted to software-as-a-service (SaaS) and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) providers, as well as other external parties, and to ensure security and compliance across highly heterogeneous business and computing environments.

“We’re honored to be acknowledged by Gartner for our unique and significant contribution in accelerating cloud adoption within the enterprise,” noted Pravin Kothari, Founder & CEO of CipherCloud “Our inclusion as a Gartner Cool Vendor is testament to our vision of helping enterprises manage the growing pains of adopting cloud-based applications while complying with data privacy, data sovereignty and regulatory requirements. What’s more, it’s a tribute to the hard work and dedication of everyone at CipherCloud in helping turn that vision into reality.”

CipherCloud’s key innovation is the application-level cloud security gateway that performs tokenization and encryption on an item-by-item basis as data is proxied. The data can then be stored in a cloud-based SaaS application, such as Salesforce.com, without impacting functionality and usability.  CipherCloud clients can choose from various encryption and tokenization algorithms and the encryption keys remain with the clients.
