The RSA security conferences are always a great opportunity to join the conversation around cyber security concerns and solutions, and CipherCloud did more than that at this month’s RSA 2015 conference in San Francisco, where we didn’t just join the cloud security conversation—we led it.
It started with Monday’s Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) summit, Top 5 Security Challenges Facing the Cloud Adopting Enterprise. Securing enterprise data in the cloud is our specialty, of course; CipherCloud’s Chenxi Wang, VP of Cloud Security & Strategy, sat on the panel, along with other respected panelists like John DiMaria, ISO Product Manager at the British Standards Institution, and Jay Chaudhry, Founder and CEO of Zscaler. The conversation revolved around the top security challenges enterprises are facing as they adopt the cloud and how enterprises can address those challenges by gaining greater visibility into their adoption and use of cloud applications. One of those challenges is the need for context-based security policy enforcement, a need driven by mobility, BYOD, and cloud; as Chenxi said, encryption in particular “needs to be strategically looked at as a control function for your context-based policies.”
Also on Monday, CipherCloud Founder, Chairman, and CEO Pravin Kothari spoke to a standing room only audience of entrepreneurs, investors, and buyers at the AGC West Coast Technology Conference Summit. Pravin presented the CipherCloud’s technology that has enabled the only readily available unified cloud security planform, as well as how the launch of our Cloud Discovery product has met audience demand to overcome the security issues caused by Shadow IT.
Later Monday night, we were honored to be presented with ten awards at the leading information security and research publication Info Security Product Guide‘s 2015 11th Annual Global Excellence Awards. We won an award in every single category in which we were nominated, taking home:
- The Grand Trophy award;
- Two Gold awards, for Company Growth of the Year and for Communications Professional of the Year, the latter going to our Lise Feng;
- And seven Bronze awards, one each for Most Innovative Company in Security, Most Innovative Security Product of the Year, Best Security Software, Cloud Security, Innovation in Cloud Security, Compliance, and Security Products and Solutions for Finance and Banking.
On Tuesday, one of our customers sat on the “From Nonexistent to Gartner’s #1 Security Technology in Three Years: What’s a CASB?” panel session, where he argued strongly against discovery-focused cloud security services. Cloud discovery is critical to controlling shadow IT and securing enterprise data in the cloud, of course. We officially launched our own Cloud Discovery product at RSA 2015. But even more critical is what tools you have to address the risks you discover. That’s where our competition falls short, as our customer pointed out.
Of course, our attendance at RSA 2015 wasn’t just about educating the audience, but about learning from it as well. Through our private dinners with customers and investors, including Marc Andreessen, we kept our finger on the pulse of information security and cloud security trends, gathering the kind of intel that will help drive the evolution of our cloud security platform forward to meet next-gen cloud security needs.
The cybersecurity and cloud security landscapes are in constant flux as new threats emerge and new technologies are developed. Conferences like RSA 2015 are one of the most important ways for us to stay in touch with the times and with our customers and prospective customers, and we were happy to make the most of our time at Moscone Center. If you missed us there this year, be sure to plan to attend next year.
